Our 2020 Season Update
April 11 2020
With the continued unsurety of how the COVID-19 pandemic will affect the arts in the coming months, Tall Tale Theatre Company has made the difficult decision to postpone all workshops planned for the year, excepting “All About Voice Acting”, as well as our summer tour of our original show Commedia Noir. Plans to premiere an original play, Angel’s Song, this winter are still underway, pending any health developments the upcoming months have in store.
Tall Tale had planned to host five unique workshops this season, beginning in March and ending in December. Out of those five, only one now will still occur: “All About Voice Acting” in December. It will be taught in collaboration with special guest Julius Cho, an accomplished voice actor based in Toronto. Registration is still available through Tall Tale’s website. Anyone who purchased a spot in all other workshops for this year will be fully refunded.
After a very successful premiere at Rockstar Music Hall in October 2019, Tall Tale was going to take its original masked comedy Commedia Noir, written by Averey Meloche, on tour to Goderich, Kingsville, and then once again in Windsor in August. The tour is being put on hold, and is being planned instead for the summer of 2021.
Tall Tale is very excited to premiere Angel’s Song, written by Brian Taylor:
“Angel's Song” is an account (mostly fact based) on the Christian re-invasion (The Third Crusade) of a land retaken by Salah ad Din. The ruthless killing machine known as The Lion Heart is determined to take back Jerusalem. But before that can happen, he must take Acre. Oh, and there's an angel, two queens, a prostitute and a Monk. Something terrible will happen, if common sense does not prevail.
Originally, Tall Tale planned on premiering the play in the Fall of 2020, but is now hoping to premiere it in the Winter of 2020. We are looking forward to working with Brian Taylor again, after premiering his hilarious and touching one act play ADR/VO at our 2nd Annual Building Blocks Fundraiser in March.
An Update Regarding COVID-19
Mar 17 2020
Due to the state of emergency declared for Ontario, and the shutting down of the Shadowbox Theatre, two upcoming workshops will be postponed until a later date TBD. If you are an artist, record financial losses and stay tuned for information from the Canada Council for the Arts.
Today, Premiere Doug Ford has announced a state of emergency for the province of Ontario. This has resulted in the closure of many types of businesses, including theatres. In response, Tall Tale Theatre Company will be postponing two of our upcoming workshops: “The Actor’s Body” and “From Page to Stage”.
These workshops were going to take place over the months of March and April at the Shadowbox Theatre. The Shadowbox Theatre has announced that it will be closed until May 1st, 2020, thus resulting in the cancellation of the workshops that were to take place there.
New dates will be determined by Tall Tale Theatre Company and the Shadowbox Theatre within the upcoming short-term period, and pending the quickly- changing climate of COVID-19.
Information will be available on our website for further updates as time passes.
A message for artists: The Canada Arts Council is asking artists to keep detailed accounts of financial losses as a result of COVID-19, and is working on a plan with the federal government to help those of us who make a living in the arts sector. You can keep up to date on information regarding this at their website.
Please stay safe, have compassion, and show love to each other.

Night Terrors! Come and Listen... If You Dare!
Posted May 28th 2019
Tall Tale Theatre is proud to announce that we will be creating original radio plays in the form of podcasts! The first branch on our podcast tree will be a remount of "Night Terrors". This thriller/horror anthology series will bring you stories filled with twists and terrors, brought to you by the ‘Humble Host’ (the quintessential horror anthology host).
Night Terrors will be coming soon, so be sure to look out for all updates!
This is an open call to all local actors, writers, graphic designers, directors, and composers who may be interested in participating in this project! All levels of experience are welcome!
The Fringe Update
Posted May 25th 2019
Unfortunately, “For the Love of Late Night, written by Michael J. Krym, had to be cancelled one day before our opening night due to sudden unforeseen circumstances. However, Tall Tale believes it is an excellent play that we are all very proud of, and so plans are in action to re-re-mount the show in the future, most likely next year.
We want to thank specifically Shannon Pitre and Conor Murphy for all of their contributions and positive energy over the month of May. They have beyond proven to be two of the most professional emerging artists Tall Tale has had the privilege of working with to date, and we hope to work with each of them again in the future.
We would like to thank each of our sponsors for their support of our work: Three Monkeys with a Typewriter, Eddy’s Mediterranean Bistro, Antonino’s Original Pizza, and Adept Driver Academy. Sponsorships have been refunded, or transferred to future projects according to the wish of each sponsor. As well, thank you to those who pre-purchased tickets online. Those ticket purchases should by now be refunded.
Tall Tale is not slowed by this small bump in the road, as we have a few exciting things already on the horizon for 2019. Most immediately, Tall Tale will be rejuvenating the classic “radio play” by starting podcast plays! Already we have “Night Terrors”, a series of one-act-horror plays all connected by a mysterious figure named the “Humble Host”. THIS IS AN OPEN CALL for submissions of voice acting talent, as well as one act plays to be created for the podcast. All genres are welcome.
In the fall, we have an original Commedia D’ell Arte show coming, written and directed by Averey Meloche, and being produced by Eric Branget through a generous grant from the Windsor Arts, Culture, and Heritage Fund. The show will bring the timeless stock characters into the contrasted and dangerous world of film noir. Auditions will be held in August.
Finally, thank you to all the local theatre companies who reached out in support of us through this process. It truly speaks to the spirit of Windsor artists.

Life of Len explores life’s great chapters through the tales of Len, a real Windsor resident. Written and first performed by Eric Branget in 2015, this production has gone on to win the ‘Audience Choice’ and ‘Spirit of Fringe’ awards at the Windsor-Walkerville Fringe Festival. Join Len through the most defining aspects of his extraordinary life; both the earnest and witty endeavours of love, failure, brotherhood and dreaming. Life of Len seeks to explore how regardless of the peaks and valleys of life, family and dreams will always be there to give us hope. Inspired by true events.
What happens when a means of escape becomes more? Arrowwood Theatre Company presents ICARUS, a modern retelling of the classic story of a reckless dreamer. Kiera Publicover, Simone Matheson, Cullen MacNaughton, and Kyra Scarlett explore this classic story through movement, sound and contact improvisation; inspired by pushing boundaries and dreaming big. How big would you dream if you thought you could not fall?
Ted/Grace was written and first performed by Kyle Kimmerly in 2015. It deals with the story of a real-life Windsorite couple, and the trials they face as one partner transitions from male to female. The play focuses on her partner, Andrew, and his memories of Ted, the husband that he can't seem to leave behind. A memory play, Ted/Grace asks us what we are willing to do for the people we love, and if we can still be who we think we are when they show us another side of themselves.
